Moran: Democratic Majority Means More Money for 8th District

This single link does more to accurately describe
the Liberal Democratic party than just about anything
any Republican could ever say. Just run ads with
nothing but this guy talking and we'll win 20 more
seats in the House...

If Democrats win back control of the U.S. House of
Representatives in November, U.S. Rep. Jim Moran
said he would use his position in the majority to
help funnel more funds to his Northern Virginia district.

Moran, D-8th, told those attending the Arlington
County Democratic Committee's annual Jefferson-Jackson
Day dinner on June 9 that while he in theory might
oppose the fiscal irresponsibility of "earmarks" -
funneling money to projects in a member of Congress's
district - he understands the value they have to
constituents.

When I become chairman [of a House appropriations
subcommittee], I'm going to earmark the shit out
of it," Moran buoyantly told a crowd of 450
attending the event.

  • Hi Robbe,

I'm about as conservative as you can get and I wonder how people cannot understand why our government is so deep in the red.
They just need to take a look at politicians like this guy and I think the light bulb just might light up...
Then again, maybe not, since most people are apathetic and apathy is the true enemy of democracy.
What people don't realize is that democracy does not automatically guarantee freedom, especially economic freedom.
Or, what was all that stuff about in 1776 anyway? Taxation without representation? Sounds like it started over an economic freedom issue...

  • It is the absolute arrogance of liberal socialism. Their solution is to raise taxes and spend more in order to make the world more "fair".

To them, there is no difference between being poor by consequence (bad decisions) or poor by fate (health problems etc...).

    One person having considerably more
wealth than another is simply unacceptable. Unless of course, they are among the wealthiest.

Republicans in Congress have also used their spending power in an attempt to buy votes. I'm not terribly impressed with them on this issue either.

  • Glad that you recognize the republican abuse of power as well Robbe. I wasn't going to comment here because you're clearly conservative, and it seems like people talking from opposite parties is pointless.

I used to be republican, but Bush has shifted my political views to the left. Once i was there, I realized they were just as stupid, but from a different viewpoint.

Something needs to be done on both sides. Or even create a new side entirely. I want my representatives to be more concerned with the greater good than re-election.

What sort of reform can be passed that will demonstrate a correlation between accomplishing good things for American citizens/humanity and re-election?

I supposed I don't really have a party to belong to anymore. I like some of the ideas from both sides. The problem is, neither side is willing to admit that the other team might, just might, have a good idea. It's a very frustrating time to be an american.

  • An abuse of power? I suppose you could say that. The problem is that in 1994 when Gingrich ran the Republican revolution, he lead it on reducing government spending or at least holding it flat.

People were ticked at the left for spending all the money for the last 40+ years while running Congress.

Ever since Gingrich left, Republicans have stopped being responsive to the conservative base and started acting like Liberals.

    It is sad.

As for humanity, I wish government would/could do more for those who are down because of fate and less for those who are down due to choice or poor life decisions.

For a lot less money, those folks who "really" need it would get a whole lot more. The problem is that noone has the courage to stand up to the libs and make that a reality.
